The impetus to establish this educational institution began nearly six years ago in response to a growing need for quality tertiary education which is accessible and affordable. With the help of some professionals who have excelled in the field of Nursing, a young and purpose-driven business executive, Mr. Melvin C. Madrid, laid the foundations for establishing COLEGIO DE STA. MONICA. It is strategically located along Marcos Alvarez Avenue, Talon Uno, Las Pinas City which is highly accessible to residential and business areas as well as transportation facilities that service Metro Manila’s burgeoning communities and environs.
On June 14, 2004, the college opened and accepted enrollees for the courses Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Caregiver Course. The facilities consist of air-conditioned classrooms, well-equipped laboratory facilities, a spacious and well-ventilated library well-stacked with adequate acquisitions and collections of books in Nursing, General Education and Sciences as well as periodicals consisting of magazines, journals and the like. There is also the Computer Laboratory with a number of computer units where students can study hands-on their Information Technology Courses.
Two Nursing Sections were accommodated on CSM’s first year operation for SY 2004-2005 and the population increased in the succeeding years. More air-conditioned classrooms were added to cater to the added number of enrollees and more books were also acquired to add to the present collection. The school campus is widened and seats and benches under the trees were provided where students can study, sit and relax during their vacant time.
In the year 2008 the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted recognition to the Nursing Course and CSM graduated its first batch of nursing graduates. The college also offers courses like: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with majors in Human Resource Management, Financial Management and Marketing Management. Likewise, Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in English; and Bachelor of Elementary Education: General and Special Education are the other courses offered.
The first nursing graduates of CSM took the Licensure Examination for Nursing last November 2008. The results came out in February 2009. CSM’s first nursing graduates-examinees registered a good passing percentage. The school takes pride of the accomplishment garnered by its graduates-examinees in terms of their passing percentage which is nearly at par with the national passing percentage. Last March, 2009, CSM graduated the second batch of Nursing graduates.
CSM is still relatively young but it has all the potentials of making it big as the years go by, guided by its vision and mission and abiding faith epitomized by Sta. Monica.
